11:30 AM: Gardening together, an antidote to challenging times? with Kevin Jones
Kevin Jones is Director of Prairie Urban Farm (PUF) on the University of Alberta's South Campus, where he is also an Associate Professor of Environmental Sociology working on topics of urban sustainability and urban agriculture. In this short lecture, Kevin will explore why we often turn to gardens during challenging times, and how 'gardening together' may provide unexpected avenues for building sustainability and cohesion in our communities. 12:30 PM: Soil- Nature’s Water Reservoir WITH JAnet Melrose
In our changing world, water along with how we can conserve it is a vital concern for gardeners. Beyond storing water for later use, our soil is the best reservoir for the moisture we do receive. In this talk and discussion, we will look at the strategies and techniques for ensuring that our soil is the best it can be to conserve the moisture we get each season. 1:30 PM: Seed Saving: Solving your Problems with Rachelle Ternier
Rachelle will address common problems encountered in seed saving and will address questions from the audience. 2:30 PM: Beginner Gardening with Suzanne Cook
Suzanne Cook is one of the team of women who have organized Edmonton Seedy Sunday since 2007. She volunteers with the Seed Library and gives regular gardening talks at the Stanley Milner Library. She has been gardening, sometimes rather obsessively, for over fifty years. |
